The Globe Junkie

I never go up the tower, my excuse being that my bag is too big and I didn’t want to go up the line. The Wackyliltyke would have found a way to make it up there despite it but I am not as strong as he is. This sort of somber feeling becomes a trend throughout the rest of the day which isn’t all that eventful. I basically go from the Eiffel Tower to the metro station but I struggle to get tickets, not really understanding the way the machines work. I spot an office nearby and muster up my French ability in my head. ‘Je voudrais un billet pour le métro’. ‘Un billet pour le métro’. ‘Je voudrais un billet pour le métro’. But, uh yeah then I just figured out how to use the machines. Case solved haha.

I take the metro to an area called Pantin, which is actually not so hard as the Paris is well developed and pretty easy to understand knowing both enough French and English as most of the signs are bilingual. Once I arrive, I wait a bit outside the Airbnb place, which is just an apartment and call my friend, telling him of the journey so far and the attractiveness of the Parisian girls I have seen so far. Once I’m in, I meet my host Welly, who is originally Brazilian but living here in Paris. He’s super nice and I get the top bunk in a room full of bunk beds with space for about eight people total. I’m shocked how many people are staying here, being somewhere around 6 or 7 total, including a Greek guy I speak to briefly and a few other Frenchmen.

Even this metro isn’t Paris, but you get the idea
the metro kinda

To be honest, it intimidates me. As you will learn I’m quite shy and reserved so all these strangers made me want to retreat to my lonesome. There’s the dichotomy between my loneliness and my fears. However, the overriding thing to both is my jet lag which has definitely taken a hold of me so far and persuades to sleep early, early being like 7pm and so I oblige it, succumbing to slumber thereafter and knocking myself out for the rest of the night, feeling a little uncomfortable and unsure of what’s to come as I do so. I text all my family members, just assuring them I arrived okay and then I tune out.

The next day is one filled with surreality in the morning. I felt as though I had awoken to a different world, a different universe even. Just to be clear, I woke up around 5am but didn’t really get out and get going until like 8am, having just layed in bed watching FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Getting up was a bit of a mental struggle in of itself, me forcing myself to go out and make something of the day when all my nerves were telling me to sleep in and stay within the security of my blanket. Nevertheless, I made my way to the little living room and ate the terrible airline food I had left being a bread thing. That’s the best way I can describe it. If this were a visual medium, that shit would for sure be censored. I remember reading about 50 Cent for some reason. I stayed on my phone, not wanting to socialize with the other inhabitants.

To be continued…
